A couple of things that you would probably like to know!

In a nutshell…   I teach guitar in an easily digestible format which is practically focused and tailored to you. I like to break down what we are working on into bitesize components. Initially I like to teach basic chords and ‘tablature’ which is an alternative to the standard music notation that a classical guitar teacher would use.

Fortunately tablature is primarily used by most music publishers and guitarists on the web – therefore giving you an infinite range of music to learn once you have the basic’s under your belt.

I also like to provide homework. Because the guitar requires practice more then anything else. If you have an interest in any particular band or musician I will also do my best to provide you with relevant material that you are interested in. This ensures that you can enjoy learning your favourite tunes at home in preparation for our next lesson. Additionally I will often recap what we have learned in the lesson that day with a short video recording sent to your smart phone.

Music theory…   Some students love music theory  where as others detest it. I will incorporate music theory to suit your tastes. More than often I find that music theory starts to creep in organically as students reach more advanced levels.

Want to know what the Circle of Fiths is? Or maybe how chords are constructed from scales. These are all great questions that are a lot easier to understand once you have a practical grasp of the guitar in place already.

Experience…   I have over two decades of experience playing a variety of styles of music. If you are interested in learning a specific style then that is no problem at all. I can teach Blues, Folk, Funk, Jazz, Country, Pop, Rock, Reggae and Classical to name a few.

And finally... I also have a lot of teaching experience within a variety of educational environments including specialist educational needs. I have previously taught music & media at a BTEC level and have also delivered Adult and Community learning courses on a freelance basis. My teaching qualification is equivalent to a PTLLS qualification in adult education. On my last official observation I was graded as an outstanding tutor by Ofsted.
